An oral health assessment is a simplified examination of the mouth, teeth and dentures and is carried out by a dentist or by a dental hygienist. In conjunction with the oral health assessment, recommendations concerning various aids are given, as well as essential dental care if necessary. Following the oral health assessment, an oral health card is printed out and sent to the resident. Free assessment Oral health assessments are offered once a year free of charge. On this occasion it will not be possible to choose a dentist/dental hygienist, but instead the patient is referred to the care provider appointed by the county council to provide outreach dental care.
It is not the need for dental care, but the personal need for care that determines whether or not a patient can have an oral assessment.
